In the summer of 2025 Diamond passed away at almost 15 years old, still not long enough for us. But Pam needed to adopt another dog to start training to become her new service dog. So we rescued "Seven" a 3 month old Alaskan Husky puppy.
We had a good time in NY, but we were ready to get back home and get to work. While we were gone we had a contractor sheetrock the addition and mud/paint the whole house. It really made our house to start to feel like a home. Now with that done we decided to start with putting in the flooring. In the container side with used a waterproof cork foam underlayment and then vinyl planking on top. But it was made a little more difficult because we got a used couch and a 10ft long sheet of butcher block that we had to move. So we did one side and moved everything over so we could do the other. Once it was finished, the floor looked 1000 times better.
Next was tiling the floor in the bathroom. We were a little hesitant because of the mistake we made with tiling the shower. Also we knew we would have to pull the toilet out and be without it it for a day or two. This made us both upset because we don't really want to go back to the dry cabin lifestyle. But I knew if we grouted around the toilet it would be a nightmare to replace or fix later on. We masked off the shower and used it as our tile cutting/mortar mixing area and it worked out great. The project took us about a week to finish. I'm sure a professional could finish it in 1-2 days, but the estimates were about 4-6K and that was money we did not have. We used the ditra water proofing membrane and then tiled over that using polymer modified mortar and porcelain tile. I've attached a video of timelapse of the process.
